// Symptom Instead of Part Number?
“Axis runs rough” is not a part — it is a clue.
Noise in the feed, positional drift, “axis runs rough” — with ball screw damage, the degree of wear and the machine model decide whether a ball screw nut replacement or a complete ball screw change is the right move.
- // Axis runs rough · vibration in the feed
- // Noise from the feed drive area
- // Positional drift · dimensions drifting
- // Bearing block runs hot · bearing failure
- // Too much play in the ball screw nut

// What We Cover
Ball Screws & Feed
Components.
ESDI supplies ball screws as complete units and as individual components — matched to the Gildemeister feed axes across all common series.
Complete Ball Screw Units
Complete ball screw as an exchange unit for X, Y and Z axes. Original design and aftermarket options.
Request ConsultationBall Screw Nut Replacement
If only the nut has play: a targeted nut replacement instead of a complete ball screw change. Saves work and cost.
Request ConsultationBearing Blocks & Bearings
End bearing blocks, fixed bearings, floating bearings. Bearing replacement without a complete ball screw change is possible too.
Request ConsultationLinear Guides
Linear carriages, linear rails, guide bushings. Wear parts on older Gildemeister models.
Request ConsultationFeed Drives
Drive components between motor and ball screw — couplings, belts, pulleys.
Request ConsultationLubrication Systems
Lubrication pumps, lubrication lines, distributors for ball screw lubrication. Wear parts for scheduled maintenance.

What We Often See on
Ball Screw Problems.
// 01 · Ball Screw Nut First
The Whole Screw Is Rarely Dead.
With “play in the axis”, it pays to replace only the ball screw nut first — the screw itself often lasts 30+ years.
// 02 · Bearing Block Runs Hot
Fixed Bearing at Its End.
A bearing block that runs hot usually means the fixed bearing has reached the end of its life. Bearing replacement without a full ball screw change is possible — faster and cheaper.
// 03 · Vibration in the Feed
Check the Lubrication.
“Vibration in the feed” or noise: check the lubrication first, then the bearings, and only then the ball screw nut. That order often saves a complete replacement.
// 04 · Positional Drift
Ball Screw or Encoder?
When dimensions drift: ball screw wear OR encoder offset. We measure independently with a glass scale before we recommend a nut replacement.
// Frequently Asked Questions
Gildemeister Ball Screws —
What Workshop Managers Ask.
Which ball screws does ESDI supply for Gildemeister?
Complete ball screw units, ball screw nuts, bearing blocks, bearings, linear guides, lubrication components. For CT, CTX, GDM, MD, TWIN, GMX. Including discontinued models from the workshop archive.
Is a ball screw nut replacement enough, or is a complete ball screw change needed?
It depends on the degree of wear. For a pure play problem, replacing the nut is often enough. Where the screw itself is worn (visible rust or wear marks), a complete ball screw change makes sense. We narrow it down by phone.
How long does a ball screw replacement take?
Preparation plus shipping: 1-2 weeks. The swap in the workshop on site: usually 2-3 days of machine downtime. We coordinate with your maintenance team.
Are ball screws available for discontinued Gildemeister models?
Often yes. ESDI holds ball screw stock for GDM, older MD and NEF from 30 years of workshop archive. If nothing is available: aftermarket remanufacture through our supplier network.
