// Symptom Instead of Part Number?
"Drive won't start" is not a part — it's a clue.
"Drive won't start", "no torque", "overcurrent fault" — with motor faults it is rarely the motor itself, more often the drive amplifier or the encoder cable.
- // Drive won't start · no torque
- // Overcurrent fault · IGBT failure
- // Motor hot · fan not working
- // Encoder fault · wrong position
- // Brake won't engage · holder defect

// What We Cover
Motor and Drive
Components.
ESDI sources and repairs Gildemeister motors and drives — from a single brush to a complete servo amplifier.
Servo Motors
AC servo motors and DC servo motors for feed axes and auxiliary axes. Including discontinued servo generations.
Request ConsultationMain Drive Motors
Spindle main drive motors, asynchronous motors, frequency-controlled drives for Gildemeister CT/CTX/GDM.
Request ConsultationFeed Motors
Feed motors for the X, Y and Z axis and for contouring axes. With or without brake and encoder.
Request ConsultationDrive Amplifiers
Servo amplifiers, frequency inverters — mostly Siemens Simodrive 611 A/D, Simoreg 6RA/6RB. Repaired on our own test bench.
Request ConsultationEncoders
Speed encoders, incremental encoders, absolute encoders for motor shafts. Special encoders too.
Request ConsultationBrushes & Wear Parts
Carbon brushes for DC motors, bearings, brake linings, fans. Wear parts for scheduled maintenance.

What we often see
with motor faults.
// 01 · No Torque
Amplifier or Motor?
With "no torque", 70% of the time the defect sits in the drive amplifier (Simodrive), not in the motor. Replacing the motor is the more expensive option — better to run a load test on the amplifier first.
// 02 · Servo Overheating
Bearings or Fan?
A feed servo running hot is almost always carbon brushes at the end of their life or a clogged fan. Direct motor damage is rare.
// 03 · Wrong Position
Encoder or Cable?
"Wrong position" faults on most Gildemeister CNC machines come down to encoder cables, not to the encoder itself. Measure with an encoder simulator.
// 04 · Brake Won't Engage
A Safety Issue.
"Brake won't engage" is safety-relevant — shut down the motor and the control immediately. Usually: the brake power supply or worn linings.
// Frequently Asked Questions
Gildemeister Motors & Drives —
what workshop managers ask.
Which Gildemeister motors does ESDI supply?
Servo motors (AC and DC), main drive motors, feed motors, brushes and encoders. For every common Gildemeister series — CT, CTX, GDM, MD, TWIN, GMX.
Does ESDI repair drive amplifiers as well?
Yes — the focus is Siemens Simodrive 611 A/D and Simoreg 6RA/6RB. Repair on our own test bench, with IGBT testing under load. More on the Simodrive repair page.
Are discontinued servo motors still available?
Often yes. ESDI stocks discontinued servo generations from the workshop archive and sources them through our supplier network.
How long does delivery of a motor take?
Standard motors usually 48h. Special types or discontinued generations on request. We quote price and delivery time up front.
