REPAIRING
THE EPL1
CONTROL
Architecture of the EPL1: The EPL1 consists of a processor board (CPU), a memory board (program memory), an operator keypad (TE) and a CRT monitor. Every one of these parts can be repaired — often it is only electrolytic capacitors, IC sockets or dry solder joints.
Most common faults: screen completely black (monitor driver stage), random characters on the display (RAM fault), keys not responding (contact problems or a torn membrane keypad), a „Batterie leer“ (battery low) message on screen — the backup battery is worn out, which is not a serious problem and is easy to replace.
Monitor repair or conversion: The CRTs for the EPL1 are no longer available. We convert 1:1 to TFT — pin-compatible, in the original housing, with no intervention in the machine. Brilliant image quality, 70% lower power consumption.
Back up the program memory: Before any repair starts, always read out and back up the NC program and the machine parameters. On the EPL1 this is done via the serial interface — we will support you with it.
Price range: A typical complete EPL1 repair (CPU + monitor TFT conversion + keypad) comes to between €1,500 and €4,000 — well below the €15,000-25,000 for a retrofit solution with a new control.
